AKEELAH AND THE BEE

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh - May 31, 2006

Thanks to the incredible generosity of Lionsgate, Reel Angels was thrilled to host a special screening of AKEELAH AND THE BEE for the wonderful children at CHP. The screening gave patients a chance to leave their hospital rooms and become VIP guests to a “red-carpet” movie premiere at the hospital. J.R. Villarreal, 14, one of the co-stars of the new movie, flew in from Texas to join the Children’s patients at the screening. Villarreal, who plays the character “Javier,” visited with children and families, posed for pictures and signed autographs. A wonderful time was had by all. Thanks to everyone involved for their efforts in making this event such a success!

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston - May 5, 2006

Reel Angels traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, to host a special screening of AKEELAH AND THE BEE for the young patients of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Hospital administrators reported that this film drew the largest crowd of all their past events! The children cheered Akeelah on throughout the spelling bee, and the film brought smiles to all the faces in the group. Reel Angels is grateful to Lionsgate, our friend Elizabeth Grannan, and the staff of Egleston for making this event possible!
